Embroidered Garment Care Symbols
Embroidered Garment Care Symbols
Deciphering garment care symbols.
General Characteristics:
Listed on the blackboard are the care symbols for embroidered garments which apply to Madeira threads ie. Classic Rayon, Polyneon, Metallics, etc.
These symbols can be found on the back of each Madeira color card and will help to make laundering embroidered items trouble free.
The temperatures listed inside the tub symbols are given in Centigrade; Fahrenheit equivalents are listed below. The circle “P” is indicative of dry cleaning agent that should not be used. A “cl” in the triangle means that any bleach, including chlorine bleach may be used safely. Conversely, an “x” through a triangle means that any bleach except chlorine bleach can be used. The iron symbols refer to recommended heat setting: one dot meaning low heat, three dots meaning high heat.
If water is introduced prior to the first laundering such as with steam or water to remove a water soluble topping, the over-dye that usually washes away during the initial laundering can be released. If this happens, wash the garment in the warmest water recommended for both the thread and garment. Depending on water conditions, you may need to repeat the washing until all excess dye has been removed. Do not dry the garment until it is free and clean of over-dye.
